Eucalyptus

What is the Eucalyptus Oil?

Australia is home to more than 700 types of fast-growing, flowering evergreens known as eucalyptus. Part of the myrtle family (Myrtaceae), these plants can grow to 60 feet tall and 15 feet wide.

doTERRA has selected five unique species to create its proprietary Eucalyptus: Eucalyptus radiata, Eucalyptus polybractea, Eucalyptus kochii, Eucalyptus loxophleba, and Eucalyptus globulus. The primary chemical component of these species is eucalyptol (1,8-Cineole), which is where this essential oil blend gets many of its benefits. The camphoraceous, herbaceous aroma can be revitalizing. Due to the oil’s main constituent, 1,8 cineole, Eucalyptus essential oil also has cleansing properties.

Use aromatically or topically to promote feelings of clear breathing and open airways.

Eucalyptus essential oil also adds to a soothing massage.

Why 4 different Species?

First, blending helps us achieve more consistent chemical profiles across all seasons and other important variables. While it’s easy to customize chemistry in a lab with synthetic constituents, that’s never been the doTERRA way—and it never will be. Instead, we support optimal chemistry by the way we grow our plants. Growing conditions, locations, harvesting practices, and more can produce plant materials that yield excellent natural chemical profiles, and blending more than one of these plant species creates more consistent chemistry bottle to bottle, while still ensuring every drop is completely pure.

Another benefit of blending multiple plant species is sourcing sustainability and reliability. It removes dependency on a single source or species, so if something were to go wrong in one location or with one crop, we’d still have a sustainable and reliable supply from other yields or species.

Previously, our Eucalyptus essential oil was solely Eucalyptus radiata. The species is still part of Eucalyptus essential oil, along with E. polybractea, E. kochii, E. loxophelba subspecies lissophlia(commonly referred to as eucalyptus lox liss), and E. globulus. You may already be familiar with this final species from doTERRA On Guard® Protective Blend.

You can use this updated Eucalyptus essential oil in the same ways as before! Eucalyptus can be used aromatically and topically, and diluting is recommended for topical application.

Pink Pepper essential oil comes from the berries of the Pink Pepper or Molle tree, a fragrant evergreen native to Peru and other parts of South America. A popular ingredient in fine perfumes, Pink Pepper oil is known for its ability to help relax the nervous system.*

The Pink Pepper tree (Schinus molle) was considered a sacred tree by the Incas. A drought-hardy tree, it has aromatic berries, bark, and leaves, all of which were used in herbal solutions to support health needs.

Despite its name, Pink Pepper is unrelated to the common spice black pepper (Piper nigrum) and is actually part of the same family as the cashew tree. Pink Pepper essential oil can be taken internally to support metabolism, immunity, and digestion, and to support healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels already in the normal range.*
